HOW MANY TYPES OF SHIPPING ARE THERE? WHAT ARE THEY?

Advance in technology have helped develop shipping which allows us to order and ship all kinds of goods across seas, lands and continents through 4 types of shipping which are;

  1. Land Transportation
    This type of transportation is mainly carried out by trains and automobiles. Trains are perfect for transporting good over a long distance, able to specify the time of delivery according to a fixed schedule due to the nature of railroad that trains cannot stop not divert from the designated route. It is also safer than transportation by automobiles. Automobile transportation fits better with a shorter distance of transportation. Its timeframe of delivery might vary due to traffic condition, additional stops or route diversion.
  2. Air Transportation
    This refers to transportation of goods via aircrafts. It has a significant role in international import and export. This kind of transportation is fast, convenient and safe. It is commonly used to transport goods that are either fragile or needed to be delivered urgently. It is also more costly than other types of transportation.
  3. Water Transportation
    Ships and boats are used for this type of transportation. It matches well with goods that are large in size, not easily damaged and need to be delivered over a long distance. The delivery timeframe is lengthy and unpredictable due to factors such as climate or landscape. Water transportation is mainly used in international transportation similar to air transportation but at a much lower cost.
  4. Pipeline Transportation
    This type of transportation transports goods in a form of liquid and gas such as water supply and petrol through pipelines. These pipelines can be laid above ground, underground or under water. Some major benefits of this type of transportation is reduction in cost and time and the ability to estimate the time of goods arrival. However, it is also worth noting that it requires high initial investment, finding any defects can be difficult and does not fit well in an area where earthquake is frequent.

All of these 4 types of transportation provide customer with convenient choices that cover almost all kinds of goods on the market. However, there has been a recent development of another type of transportation called door-to-door service to provide clients with even more convenient. This type of service refers to a service where a service provider picks up goods from one customer’s doorstep and delivers it to the other customer’s doorstep. This provides a great level of convenience to both sender and receiver in terms of fixed cost of delivery, save on both time and fees in processing the item of delivery.

Goods that are able to be delivered through door-to-door service vary in size, from small to large. Its delivery fee depends on types of goods, its volume, weight and speed of delivery.
These include; documents which does not require an intensive damage prevention hence being low in cost, medicinal goods which can be expensive in delivery fee due to specialised care required in delivery service as some medicines comes with a number of limitations such as photosensitivity and heat sensitivity, perishable goods which have the highest range of fees in door-to-door service as they require an expert, specialised and a swift delivery to maintain the freshness of the delivered goods.

Regardless of the type of goods you are shipping, door-to-door service can provide you with an utmost level of convenient without even leaving your home and help you ease up any difficulty you might have faced in sending any items.
